The sinking of Dubai is not like a fire on the far side of the river. The Lee Myung-bak administration is trying to achieve economic growth with “the Dubai model,” with things like the construction of a canal disguised as the “four major rivers improvement project,” the development of Saemangeum and new super high-rises. Nothing is as foolish as following an example of failure. Korea needs a development strategy that is sustainable, not a “construction economy” that only fattens construction companies and speculative investors.

두바이가 주는 교훈

두바이 침몰은 강건너 불이 아니다.

이명박 정부는 4대강 정비사업으로 위장한 운하 건설, 새만금 개발, 초고층 빌딩 건설 등 ‘두바이 모델’로 경제 성장을 이끌려 하고 있다.

그 결과가 어떻게 될지는 명확하다.

이미 실패한 본보기를 뒤쫓는 것처럼 어리석은 것은 없다.

건설업자와 투기자본의 배만 불리는 ‘토목 경제’가 아닌 지속 가능한 발전 전략을 세워야 한다.
