The ruling Grand National Party has produced something called a “Special Act on the Prevention of Acts of Violence in the National Assembly.” It says it is going to have the bill go through the public hearing process, but that is clearly going to be about just going through the motions since the party has already announced that it wants to have the thing approved in February’s extraordinary session. This is most annoying, in that a bill supposedly about preventing violence at the National Assembly is leading to yet further political infighting and controversy.

한나라당이 국회 안에서 폭력행위를 한 의원은 의원직을 잃도록 하는 내용의 ‘국회 폭력행위 방지 특별법안’을 내놓았다.

공청회를 거치겠다고 하지만, 2월 임시국회 통과라는 목표가 정해진 이상 그런 과정은 요식 절차에 불과할 게 분명하다.

국회 폭력을 막겠다는 법안이 또다른 정치적 논란과 싸움의 쟁점이 되고 있으니, 딱할 뿐이다.
