The National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) is now urging a complete reorganization of the information communications review system, which reviews posts on the Internet and urges deletion or other measures. The reason cited was that the current system, which gives the Korea Communications Standards Commission (KOCSC) the right to review Internet material and demand revision, poses a great risk of abuse as a tool for censorship. The NHRCK recommended to the KOCSC chairman amending the law to give Internet review rights to an autonomous private body.

인권위 권고 따라 방통심의위 ‘인터넷 심의’ 폐지해야

국가인권위원회가 인터넷 게시물을 심의해 삭제 등을 요구하는 정보통신심의제도를 전면 개편해야 한다고 지적하고 나섰다. 방송통신심의위원회(방통심의위)에 인터넷 심의와 시정 요구 권한을 부여하는 현행 제도가 검열 도구로 악용될 위험이 크다는 게 이유다. 인권위는 인터넷 심의를 민간 자율 기구에 넘기는 내용으로 법을 개정하라고 방송통신위원장에게 권고했다.
