Resolving the issue of part-time lecturers at universities, who have suffered from chronic employment insecurity and poor treatment, is one of the most important tasks facing South Korean society. A sit-down strike by part-time lecturers in front of the National Assembly has lasted for more than three years, and five known individuals have taken their own lives out of despair with their reality. Yesterday, the Presidential Council on Social Cohesion (PCSC), which has been considering possible solutions for the problem, presented a plan for institutional improvements. The plan does indeed include some steps forward, but it still falls short of a fundamental solution to the problem.

여전히 미흡한 시간강사제도 개선안

만성적인 고용불안과 열악한 처우에 시달려온 시간강사 문제는 우리 사회가 해결해야 할 중요한 과제 가운데 하나다. 국회 앞에서는 3년 넘게 시간강사들의 농성이 지속돼왔고 생활고를 비관해 목숨을 끊은 사람도 5명이나 된다. 이 문제의 해결방안을 고민해온 사회통합위원회(사통위)가 어제 제도개선 방안을 내놨다. 개선안은 나름대로 진전된 내용을 포함하고 있지만 문제의 근본적인 해결에는 여전히 미흡하다.
